Calificación 8 (ocho)El presente trabajo es un estudio exploratorio de análisis de contenido interpretativo de discurso parlamentario en torno a la ley de Interrupción Voluntaria del Embarazo (IVE). Se enmarca en el área temática de la comunicación política, y analiza una muestra de los discursos parlamentarios de los diputados y las diputadas en la sesión del día 13 de junio en Argentina, a raíz del debate por la ley IVE. Para enmarcar el contexto, retoma el recorrido de la Campaña Nacional por el Derecho al Aborto Legal, Seguro y Gratuito, y los cambios en la legislación nacional en torno al aborto. A la vez, desarrolla un marco teórico basado en los dos temas fundamentales que atraviesan el trabajo: el discurso parlamentario y la cuestión de género. Se confeccionó un corpus de treinta discursos, utilizando como criterio de selección la jefatura de bloques. Para analizar el contenido de los mismos, se elaboraron categorías que ayudaron a identificar las nociones sobre las que basaron su voto los y las representantes, ya sea en apoyo o en rechazo al proyecto de ley; más específicamente, las nociones sobre la mujer, el aborto, el derecho a la vida y el rol del Estado presentes en el contenido de los discursos

    Radón interior en puestos de trabajo en España. Un estudio piloto antes de la introducción de la Directiva Europea 2013/59/Euratom

    Objective : To explore whether there is a possible problem regarding indoor radon concentration surpassing the new European Directive 2013/59/Euratom threshold in Spanish workplaces. We also aim to find out whether radon concentration might be associated with certain characteristics of workplaces. Method : We performed a cross-sectional study to measure indoor radon concentrations in Spanish workplaces including five different sectors (education, public administration, the health sector, the tourist sector and the private sector). To be measured, the workplace should be occupied permanently by at least one worker. Alpha-track type radon detectors were placed for at least three months and read at the Galician Radon Laboratory at the University of Santiago de Compostela. A descriptive analysis was performed on radon distribution by sector, building characteristics and number of workers affected. Results : We faced enormous difficulties in finding volunteers for this study. Galicia and Madrid had the highest number of measurements. Of a total of 248 measurements, 27% had concentrations above 300 Bq/m3. Median radon concentration was 251 Bq/m3 in Galicia, followed by Madrid, with 61.5 Bq/m3. Forty-six percent of the workplaces measured in Galicia had radon concentrations higher than 300 Bq/m3 followed by 10.6% in Madrid. Nineteen percent of all workers were exposed to more than 300 Bq/m3 and 6.3% were exposed to radon concentrations higher than 500 Bq/m3. Conclusion : Indoor radon exposure might be a relevant problem in Spanish workplaces and the number of affected workers could be high. The prevalence of workers exposed to high radon concentrations probably depends on the geographical area.Objetivo: Explorar si podría existir un problema en cuanto a la concentración de radón en los puestos de trabajo en España por superación del umbral propuesto por la nueva Directiva Europea 2013/59/Euratom. También se pretende conocer si la concentración de radón puede estar asociada a las características de los puestos de trabajo. Método: Estudio transversal en seis regiones y diferentes sectores (educación, administración pública, sanitario, turístico y privado). El puesto de trabajo medido debía ser ocupado de manera permanente por al menos un trabajador. Los detectores de radón de tipo alfa-track estuvieron colocados al menos 3 meses y fueron revelados en el Laboratorio de Radón de Galicia, de la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Se realizó un análisis descriptivo de la concentración de radón por sector, por características de los edificios y por número de trabajadores afectados. Resultados: Hubo dificultades para encontrar voluntarios para este estudio. Galicia y Madrid tuvieron el mayor número de mediciones. Se midieron 248 lugares de trabajo, con el 27% por encima de los 300 Bq/m3. La concentración mediana fue de 251 Bq/m3 en Galicia, seguida de Madrid con 61,5 Bq/m3. El 46% de los puestos de trabajo en Galicia tenían concentraciones mayores de 300 Bq/m3, y el 10,6% en Madrid. El 19% de los trabajadores estuvieron expuestos a más de 300 Bq/m3 y el 6,3% a más de 500 Bq/m3. Conclusión: La exposición a radón podría ser un problema de salud relevante en los lugares de trabajo en España. El número de trabajadores expuestos parece elevado.     Small bowel transplantation in rats, a multicenter experience summarizing the pitfalls to be overcome

    Small Bowel transplantation in rats is a highly complex microsurgical procedure because several technical complications may lead to recipient mortality and transplant failure. Our aim was to report the most common complications associated with orthotopic and heterotopic intestinal transplantation in rats in order to identify the “pitfalls” of the procedure and prevent them. A retrospective multicenter study was performed. All participant centers have established rodent transplant procedures and trained surgeons. Two hundred ninety-three complications from 264 unsuccessful intestinal transplants were reported, representing an overall failure rate of 15% of the procedures performed. Recipient complications were most frequent than donor (257 vs. 36 p<0.0001). Excessive surgical time (11/36); severe hemorrhage (12/36) and inappropriate infusion of the preservation solution in the intestinal graft (11/36) were the most common donor complications. Arterial anastomosis bleeding (50/257), venous anastomosis bleeding (35/257) and portal vein stenosis (26/257) were the most common intraoperative complications in the recipient. To maximize success rate, surgeons should optimize time and avoid bleeding during graft dissection in the donor surgery.     Full Custom Rail-to-Rail Self-Calibrating Comparator for Low Voltage Successive Approximation Register Analog-to-Digital Converter

    The demand for low power consuming devices is increasing, particularly that of wireless sensor networks (WSN). This study aims to address this problem by designing a novel rail-to-rail comparator for SAR ADC integrated with selfcalibration to null offset. In this study, rail-to-rail comparator, self-calibrating comparator, and rail-to-rail self-calibrating comparator are the circuits that will be designed, compared and analyzed. The three circuit designs were realized using the 0.18um CMOS technologyand has undergonePVT variations. The designed comparators all operate with a 1.8 V supply. In comparing and determining which circuit is the best in terms of their response, all the circuits will be compared based on six parameters to be measured thru the use of Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis, also known as SPICE. The rail-to-rail comparator design resulted in an ICMR of 700mV. The self-calibratingcomparator design has a prominent value of 78dB for its CMRR. On the other hand, the novel rail-to-rail self-calibrating comparator design has highlighted a 5.15 V/us slew rate, with a power dissipation of only 22.40uW. A layout of the novel rail-to-rail self-calibrating comparator was also implemented which has a power dissipation 25.60uW and a slew rate of 4.16 V/us. It was found that the proposed design’s key features are stable performance over wide temperature ranges from 0°C up to 49°C, high value of slew rate and low power consumption without compromising its function

    A 15-year consolidated overview of data in over 6000 patients from the Transthyretin Amyloidosis Outcomes Survey (THAOS)

    Background Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR amyloidosis) is a progressive, multisystemic, life-threatening disease resulting from the deposition of variant or wild-type (ATTRwt amyloidosis) transthyretin amyloid fibrils in various tissues and organs.Methods Established in 2007, the Transthyretin Amyloidosis Outcomes Survey (THAOS) is the largest ongoing, global, longitudinal, observational study of patients with ATTR amyloidosis, including both hereditary and wild-type disease, and asymptomatic carriers of pathogenic TTR mutations. This analysis describes the baseline characteristics of symptomatic patients and asymptomatic gene carriers enrolled in THAOS since its inception in 2007 (data cutoff: August 1, 2022), providing a consolidated overview of 15-year data from the THAOS registry.Results This analysis included 4428 symptomatic patients and 1707 asymptomatic gene carriers. The majority of symptomatic patients were male (70.8%) with a mean (standard deviation [SD]) age at symptom onset of 56.6 (17.9) years. Compared with the 14-year analysis, V30M remained the most prevalent genotype in Europe (62.2%), South America (78.6%), and Japan (74.2%) and ATTRwt remained most common in North America (56.2%). Relative to the 14-year analysis, there was an increase of mixed phenotype (from 16.6 to 24.5%) and a reduction of predominantly cardiac phenotype (from 40.7 to 31.9%). The proportion of patients with predominantly neurologic phenotype remained stable (from 40.1 to 38.7%). Asymptomatic gene carriers were 58.5% female with a mean age at enrollment of 41.9 years (SD 15.5).Conclusions This overview of > 6000 patients enrolled over 15 years in THAOS represents the largest registry analysis of ATTR amyloidosis to date and continues to emphasize the genotypic and phenotypic heterogeneity of the disease. Nearly a quarter of the symptomatic population within THAOS was mixed phenotype, underscoring the need for multidisciplinary management of ATTR amyloidosis.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT00628745

    Development and Validation of an Early Mortality Risk Score for Older Patients Treated with Chemotherapy for Cancer

    Background: Estimation of life expectancy in older patients is relevant to select the best treatment strategy. We aimed to develop and validate a score to predict early mortality in older patients with cancer. Patients and Methods: A total of 749 patients over 70 years starting new chemotherapy regimens were prospectively included. A prechemotherapy assessment that included sociodemographic variables, tumor/treatment variables, and geriatric assessment variables was performed. Association between these factors and early death was examined using multivariable logistic regression. Score points were assigned to each risk factor. External validation was performed on an independent cohort. Results: In the training cohort, the independent predictors of 6-month mortality were metastatic stage (OR 4.8, 95% CI [2.4-9.6]), ECOG-PS 2 (OR 2.3, 95% CI [1.1-5.2]), ADL ≤ 5 (OR 1.7, 95% CI [1.1-3.5]), serum albumin levels ≤ 3.5 g/dL (OR 3.4, 95% CI [1.7-6.6]), BMI < 23 kg/m2 (OR 2.5, 95% CI [1.3-4.9]), and hemoglobin levels < 11 g/dL (OR 2.4, 95% CI (1.2-4.7)). With these results, we built a prognostic score. The area under the ROC curve was 0.78 (95% CI, 0.73 to 0.84), and in the validation set, it was 0.73 (95% CI: 0.67-0.79). Conclusions: This simple and highly accurate tool can help physicians making decisions in elderly patients with cancer who are planned to initiate chemotherapy treatment

    Spices to Control COVID-19 Symptoms:Yes, but Not Only…

    There are large country variations in COVID-19 death rates that may be partly explained by diet. Many countries with low COVID-19 death rates have a common feature of eating large quantities of fermented vegetables such as cabbage and, in some continents, various spices. Fermented vegetables and spices are agonists of the antioxidant transcription factor nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2), and spices are transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 and vanillin 1 (TRPA1/V1) agonists. These mechanisms may explain many COVID-19 symptoms and severity. It appears that there is a synergy between Nrf2 and TRPA1/V1 foods that may explain the role of diet in COVID-19. One of the mechanisms of COVID-19 appears to be an oxygen species (ROS)-mediated process in synergy with TRP channels, modulated by Nrf2 pathways. Spicy foods are likely to desensitize TRP channels and act in synergy with exogenous antioxidants that activate the Nrf2 pathway
